Weekly Photo Challenge: Big
How’s this for BIG?
Finding the perfect image for this week’s photo challenge proved to be an easy feat. I knew that the photo I took of the famous sculpture “Maman” by Louise Bourgeois would suit the theme really well. I have posted this image in the past (see previous post here.) in color. I had it converted to B&W for a different effect.
This gargantuan sculpture of the mama spider measures over 30 feet high and 33 feet wide. It stands just outside the National Gallery of Canada, welcoming visitors to the national museum.

AAACK! (Pretty cool though!)
LOL! Love your reaction, perhaps I should have posted this photo as the Spooky theme as well
Hi Gracie, good choice of subject for the theme. Yes its scary even for someone who doesn’t normally mind spiders – just looks like it might come after you! I agree it looks great in B&W too, I don’t think it would have had the same impact in colour.
Thank you
Yes, I agree, the B&W looks better
Beautiful photo!
Thanks for visiting my blog.
Thanks Anne!
This is AWESOME!
This sculpture is quite famous too.
Wow! That’s a huge spider!!!!! Amazing!
It is quite big
Almost scary really.
Excellent, Gracie! If I saw that, I would run the other way…and hoping I can run fast enough to get away!
Haha! Thank goodness this one stood still and didn’t seem to mind the camera
Good photo. I also posted a photo of the sculpture “Maman” by Louise Bourgeois, which I photographed when I was traveling in Buenos Aires, Argentina, but I didn’t post it as the Weekly Challenge. Another wordpress author told me about this coincidence. I think the sculpture is amazing. Don’t you?
Kind greetings,
Marianne
Yes, another blogger mentioned it to me too. And I agree, it is hard to miss this amazing sculpture. At first I thought we were special, haha, and then I found a few more photos of this sculpture in several other places
hahaha Yes. It seems that the sculpture travels around the world because a friend of mine told me that she saw the sculpture in another Country too.
Yep, I just Googled it and already found it standing in front of several other Art Galleries and Museums (London, Spain, Zurich, USA, Hamburg).
Enormous might be a better way to describe this. I really like the B&W version…spooky!
Thank you, David! I like the B&W too
For a moment I thought I had landed on the trailer for a new sci-fi monster movie. Thanks for scaring us
Haha! So not my intention. But glad you liked it
A 30 foot high spider would be my worst nightmare…this image looks like it came out of a sci-fi ..I like the bw.
Thanks Jennifer! I’m scared of spiders too, but this one was harmless
Ha! That is so-oooo cool. Great work!
Thanks Lee!
OMG thats really big. Very fitting for the Halloween season
It sure is
Found this entry right after yours, it was almost creepy! http://mariannegv.wordpress.com/2012/10/01/%EF%BB%BFsculpture-maman/#comment-267
Yes, this sculpture is quite famous
I really like the black and white effect
Me too
I have to try and refine it later on, the conversion was done in haste.
I’m looking at taking just black and white photos for a while and uploading it in my blog. I don’t have time yet to do all that but that’s my plan.
It looks perfect! I love the conversion
Oh I would love to see your B&W. I know I don’t do as much as I should, but will definitely try to include more B&W in my future posts.
Thanks again for checking out my blog
